Hello, my name is Penni and I’ve been sewing since I was 8 years old. I started out learning to sew in my local 4-H group. Entered into the county fair and won blue ribbons each year for the garments I made and modeled. In the first year I competed, I entered a simple elastic waist skirt. I was selected to be in the top 30! I was so excited!
I wanted to major in Fashion Design and enrolled into the program at Texas Women’s University. One of my professors was Les Wilk who designed for famous people. He was a fantastic design teacher who encouraged us with every stitch. We learned how to make our first pattern slope. At the end of the year, we traveled to New Orleans. We went there to model our garments we made at the Colorists and Chemists Convention.
Since then, I sewed my bridesmaid’s dresses, clothing for my children when they were young and added various wardrobe pieces.
Last year I began quilting. I was so homesick for Joann’s that I wanted to sew something! I went to a local quilting store and found a wall hanging kit by Riley Blake. I really didn’t think I would like quilting but it turns out I DO! I’ve been a quilting fanatic and joined the local block of the month club. There we’re working on a large quilt that will take a year to finish.
Here are just some of the quilting projects I’ve made since last September. The first one, with the pumpkin, was my very first quilted project. It’s not perfect but it gave me the itch to learn and make more quilted projects.
